K9s...Loyal But Deadly AT Times.

Lately we have seen many cases of  Dogs attacking children and adults a like. Especially adult dogs. What causes these wonderful animal to behave like a deadly beast all of a sudden is unknown. One thing for sure though, be it your own pet or your neighbors dog,  they are sometimes unpredictable. There are several reasons that may be connected as to why dogs behave in such a manner:

1.Agitation - Dogs could get agitated, if they have been caged or tied for a long period of time, or not given any food or water for a long time,  upon release from the cage or chain, they may attack some one in their way. Its a way of venting out their frustration and anger. Its even worse if these dogs were not let out in the streets but happened to have escaped out, that will excite them and definitely dangerous for anyone.

2. Touch Sensitive - Although dogs love to be petted but holding them by their neck means a Sign of danger for them. Its like a Protective mechanism where they might see that holding them by the neck is like attacking them and so they may react to that action by biting back. The same goes to holding their tails.

3. Motivated by Territory - Dogs are very protective over their territory. That is why dogs will not allow anyone to come into their masters house, as it is also their territory.

These are only some of the points that may trigger a dog to behave abnormally, however on our side, we can take several precautions to avoid a dog attack:

  • Adult Supervision.   You should always watch over your child if he is playing with a dog. Never leave an infant or child alone with a family dog or your neighbors dog.  Remember a dog may seem gentle but and loves children if they a are not in the mood, that's danger. It does not matter if the dog is large r small . It does not matter what breed is the dog. Even if you are in the room, a baby or a todddler should never be left alone with any dog.
  • Be Alert.   If you and your children or family are playing or walking in area and a dog approaches, you should take the following actions:  1. Stay close to your child as dogs are known to be a little afraid of adults as compared to children due to size. 2. Pick up your children and leave the area. If you see a group of dogs hovering over at a play ground just leave the area, a group of dogs behave the same way as a group of tugs. They get wild if they are in a group.
  • Educate Your Child.   You should teach your child not to walk up to and pat any dog with or without a leash. Teach them to always keep at a safe distance and ask the owners permission before approaching any dog for patting.

Adult dogs especially Un-neutered male dogs are the most aggressive. Female dogs too sometimes are known to be even more wild than the male dogs, this is especially so when it has off springs(puppies) or when it is enjoying its meal.   If you have a dog and children, you should have the dog spayed or neutered. You should also put on a Dogs mask on to lock its mouth when its is let loose in the compound. Do not disturb a dog while it is having its meal. A dog if it is staring at you while being very quite may signal that it is not happy with you. You got to sense this dangers.

If you happen to be jogging in your neighborhood, carry a long a stick or a chain. If you are approached by a dog just stand still because a dog may actually feel frightened when you stand still. If you spot a group of dogs Never go near. Never run but just walk away.

In case you are bitten by a dog, you need immediate medical attention. Go to the nearest clinic for medical treatment. Never leave a Dog Bitten wound unattended by a professional doctor. Dogs carry a lot germs in their mouth and they can be deadly.

If you have been around dogs all your life and if you love dogs, these points and measures may sound extreme until you realize how many millions of people are being bitten by dogs every year. Take a look a these statistics. Click here http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/d/dog_bite/stats-country.htm. There are  5 million dog bites in America every year, and more than half of them happen to children. The reason they happen to children is because children and dogs are about the same size (or the dog is larger). A dog can be intimidated by the physical size of an adult, but not by a child. The most common place for a dog to attack is the child's face. Dogs are animals, and even the best animals can act in unpredictable ways for unknown reasons.

I recently read a story of a Dog which bit a little by till death in East Malaysia. The boy was in his uncles house and was quite use to playing with his uncles dog. The boys father came over to the uncles house and while the father and uncle were talking this boy went playing the dog. Since the uncle is the fathers brother. The father told him to send his son back to home once he is done playing. After a while the uncle noticed that the boy was not arond and thought that the father has taken him home. Only until the father called up his brother about the boy did the uncle realize something was a miss. He searched for the boy and found him dead where he was playing with the dog, the by was bitten badly by the dog.  This was a happy friendly dog that had never before shown signs of aggression. Dogs can be totally unpredictable.
